Taboan Mindanao

It was 6:30 in the morning on September 20, 2009; I rushed to a mosque near our base in Zamboanga City. I was excited to receive the award of tranquility after 29 days of sacrifice in the month of Ramadan. The Muslim Ummah throughout the world were busy preparing for Eidl Fitr prayer while chanting "Allah Ho Akbar" (God is Great).

Thank God I was one of the survivors of one month fasting. Fasting is something special to all Muslims. Indeed it is self purification and peace of mind and it was in coincidence with peace month declared by the Philippine Government. Ofcourse celebrating the Eidl Fitr without parents is not perfect, but 'alhamdu lillah' Muslim brothers and sisters surrounded me that day enough to substitute the presence of my parents. I witnessed some Muslims in the mosque cried for joy. Repentance and reconciliation this day is always the highlight. I wish also to kiss the forehead of my late grand mother that day, only to feel how successful she wished that one day I will be faithful Muslim.

It was supposed to be a celebration of Eid. The Children expected to enjoy the entire day together with their happy parents and family.

But everything turned into nightmare when I passed by my relative’s house after the Eid prayer. We received information through online from Buansa, Sulu that Commander Kaid Adjibun, a MNLF State Chairman, was not able to perform his Eidl Fitr prayer due to Military operation from sea, land and air. It resulted to thousands of innocent civilians psychologically injured and hundred physically injured after the military bombs exploded everywhere in the civilian communities and two Mosque are stroke with bombs.

"If Philippines Government do not respect the MNLF atleast they respect the Eid Fitr", a sentiment of Mr. Mustafa, one of the observant of Ramadan in Zamboanga City.

Indanan residents are now scattered everywhere in the evacuation centers. The school children expected can not attend their classes till the ceasefire will not guarantee.

As an academician my concern is the education of pupils who are now in the evacuation centers as of today. The Government did not pay respect to religious rite of the Muslims in Sulu, and do not mind of the educational reduction of Muslim students.

After the operation does the government conduct rehabilitation such as counseling for children? If this does not happen then what do you expect from the children?

Civilians shouted that this tragedy is the Government was not only violating the month of peace but also unethical operation during the Muslim special day. They actually created another problem that must be brought to international level. And this could open the minds of sleeping giant Muslim in Sulu and Mindanao. moretext

Kapatid,

What can you really expect from those who have not once tried to be alone with their God in a disciplined spiritual exercise such as yours during your Ramadan? What can you expect from people who are self-deluded that only they, are on the right? Can you still expect good from them when they are blood-thirsty out of the fact that their minds and bodies are being trained toward that end? Always on the alert for some bloody action?

To my brother rebels
Wake up Mindanaoans
and do not hold on to your guns
do not give them an excuse
to stay longer and make use

of our women!
of our land!
of our fight
to survive...
