Volunteering is work without pay; the branch of philanthropy in which time replaces cheque book. It is an expression of individual freedom, reflecting sensitivity for the needs of others and often involving personal sacrifice. The boundaries of this description are however becoming blurred as patterns of volunteering are changing fast, too fast for governments which seek to channel its direction and too fast for civil society which prefers a disciplined resource. Volunteers in north and south have been quick to appreciate that investing their time in campaigns to change unfair global rules can address poverty as effectively as traditional community service, especially when allied with the global citizenship potential of new technologies. Comment by Hindu Singh on April 5, 2009 at 7:38pm - recently i joined this group. i have been reading articles that all says is making about Mindanao a peaceful & better society. my experience as human right activist working with conflict effected group in India is positive & contributing but i couldn't decide how can i contribute for Mindanao sitting in India.!? but than thought comes in my mind that people from all walks of life thinks a lot for Mindanao would make it place of their dreams . i wish all the best to all friends

I am a worker assisting communities in ARMM, mostly affected by conflict like Datu Piang and Datu Saudi Ampatuan in Maguindanao. What is timely right now is that all public elementary schools in this area are preparing for the Brigada Eskwela, an activity beautifying schools and classrooms involving parents, teachers and the community. I am thinking that the Brigada Eskwela might be a good opportunity for the group to do volunteer work and render "labor" as counterpart. This might be a start. Your thoughts and comments are highly appreciated. Salamat. Salamat.
